Mike Foust for Mayor The Penny Story

My mom always taught me to set aside money: for charity, a rainy day and some for fun.

By teaching me I mean she forced me to save a % for charity, a rainy day, and fun. I was a kid, I’d have spent it. Fair ’nuff. Probably would have wasted it.

In 7th grade, the school had a contest to raise money for March of Dimes. The school promised a pizza party to the class with the most money, and the school wrote the rules. I asked my mom if I could use my charity savings on the contest. When I got to class the next day we were still behind the other classes..

As a class, we brainstormed… then I got bored and wandered off and read the contest rules.
I realized they were giving the pizza party to the class “with the most money determined by the heaviest weight.” I asked my mom to get the “charity savings” from the bank in all pennies. All of the class followed suit, and hell yeah, we did it.
We won. We got the pizza party.

I am asking you for $1, the American Penny. Let’s win this contest, people. LFG! Or if you’re feeling generous, donate extra

Of course, you can always give more. I’ll spend it wisely.
